**Jivaka Kaumara-Bhrtya Biography
Jivaka Kaumara-Bhrtya is highly respected as the Great Master of Thai Traditional Medicine. His expertise in traditional medicine has been derived and transferred since Buddhism Era, from generations to generation until today. He was known as a personal physician of The Lord Buddha (Siddhattha Gotama) and he also served as a doctor for other patients such as the enlightened monks, disciples, Buddhists and general people. With the intensive willpower praying from cycles of past life to past life in front of "Phra-Patum-tra" (an another past life of Lord Buddha) to claim that " he would like to be a personal physician of Lord Buddha in the future" "Phra-Patum-tra" accepted his willpower praying and praised him to achieve his intention. So, at the current life of Lord Buddha (Siddhattha Gotama), Jivaka Kaumara-Bhrtyahad an opportunity to serve as a doctor and he dedicated his whole life to cure and provide medicine for Lord Buddha.
Besides he administered the treatment for the Lord Buddha, he also cured many of the enlightened monks, disciples, Buddhists and general people. Since the Buddha perceived that he would soon reach the end of life. He refused to get medicine given by Jívaka any more, he finally passed away and toward peacefully Parinirvana.
The name "Jivaka" or "Jivaka Komarabhaccha" have a meaning as "still alive" or "still alive infant or infant treatment" During his childhood, by the reason that the expression of his intelligent, talent wisdom surpassed those of the other children, he had an opportunity to study medicine and gave curative for people at the place called "Taksasila" that was far away from "Rajagha" (Taxila, now in Pakistan, about 35 kms north-west of Rawalpindi). With his good willing, modest and enthusiasm characteristics, this made his teachers trusted and kindly regarded him as a beloved student. They intentionally taught and transferred all knowledge to him. With his perfect memory, he only achieved within 7 years whereas the other students might finished more than 16 years. Before declaring that his studying was complete during the last phase, his teacher assigned him a practical examination by entering the forest to explore and seek round within a radius of 400 Lines (approximately 16 Km.) and brought any plant which did not possess medicinal properties to the teacher. After 7 days of his trip, he came back and told the teacher;"I examined the plants of the entire region specified by teacher's assignment, but could not discover a single one which was devoid of curative properties and useless to living beings". The teacher satisfied with his answer and said to him;" You have completely done your learning got from us, now go home and start practice."
The young man got very much pleasure and revealed his smiling, then he paid respect and said farewell before leaving for "Rajagha" city. During the way heading "Rajagha", Jivaka used his medical knowledge to cure every people whether those patients got suffer from any severe or chronic disease including diseases that no one could succeed in treatment. By miraculous curative techniques that no physician at that time could done before including the medicinal recipes prepared from natural herbs, Jivaka could help a lot of patients to get relief and recover from those severe or chronic diseases, and turn into normal condition. He administered many kinds of treatment such as hemorrhoid curative, brain surgery, open skull operation, intestinal abscess surgery, pulmonary tuberculosis and others which were collected in Buddhism traditional medicine texts.
