Moving off WooCommerce Subscriptions
Install ours alongside the one you have. The importer detects what is there, runs dry first so you can read the numbers before anything is written, then works in resumable batches with a full journal.
Your source data is never modified, and the whole import has a rollback. If you do not like what you see, you leave.
You decide what leaves
Free sends no telemetry and contacts no LaFactory service. Its updates come only from WordPress.org.
Pro contacts the private channel for licensing and updates. CRM connectors and the webhook receive data only after you configure and enable them. Credentials stay inside WordPress.
A graft, not a silo
Subscriptions are stored as a native shop_subscription order type, the same convention the rest of the ecosystem uses, so your data stays portable if you ever leave us.
No separate admin menu, no invented REST namespace, no home-made cron. If you know WooCommerce, you already know where everything is.
Documentation
Enough to install, configure and verify. Every screen the plugin adds is listed here.
Install and first subscription
WooCommerce 9.0 or later must be active, on WordPress 6.4 or later and PHP 8.1 or later. Install the plugin from the WordPress plugin screen, activate it, and you land on the About page.
- Go to WooCommerce › Settings › Subscriptions to set what customers may do, when reminders go out, and how payment retries behave.
- Create a product and pick Simple subscription, Variable subscription, Subscription box or Membership in the product type selector.
- The Subscription tab in the product data panel holds the cadence, the trial, the sign-up fee, the length and the purchase limits.
- On a variable subscription, each variation carries its own cadence. A variation that defines none inherits the parent's.
Where things live in the admin
- WooCommerce › Subscriptions: the dashboard, with MRR, upcoming renewals and churn.
- WooCommerce › All subscriptions: the full list, with pause, resume, charge and cancel on each row.
- WooCommerce › Settings › Subscriptions: every setting, including the Pro modules and the licence key.
- Pro adds Dunning, Subscription analytics, Migration and repair, Health and contract-control screens under the same WooCommerce menu.
Which gateways can charge a renewal
Any gateway that tokenizes a card or declares subscription support, which covers Stripe, PayPal Payments, Mollie, Square, Authorize.Net and GoCardless among others. Stripe and PayPal Payments have dedicated adapters; anything else holding a stored payment method is charged the way WooCommerce charges a saved card.
Rather than promise blanket compatibility, the plugin states the situation gateway by gateway on your own settings screen. A gateway with no usable token falls back to manual renewal: the customer receives a renewal order he can pay from his account.
Renewals, retries and what the customer sees
- Renewals are scheduled through Action Scheduler, which ships with WooCommerce. There is no separate cron to maintain.
- A failed renewal puts the subscription on hold and arms a retry. You choose how many attempts and at what intervals.
- The customer can settle the failed renewal himself from My account › Subscriptions, which is usually faster than any retry.
- Renewing early does not shorten the subscription: the paid cycle is added, and the next payment date moves forward accordingly.
Subscription boxes and memberships
A subscription box is a product type where you define one or more selection steps, each with a minimum and a maximum and a list of eligible products. The customer composes the box once at checkout; every renewal re-ships exactly that selection, and the box items are added at zero because the box price already covers them.
A membership is a product type that grants a WordPress role while the subscription is active, and unlocks the product categories you reserve for that role. Cancel or let it expire and the role is revoked, so the reserved categories close again.
Developers
- REST under
/wp-json/lafactory-subscriptions/v1/subscriptions: read, create, update, plus pause, resume, skip, charge, cancel and stats. - Native WooCommerce webhooks fire on every subscription event, from the webhook screen you already use.
- Public hook prefix
lfsubs_. Meta keys are_subscription_*where a convention already exists,_lfsubs_*where it does not. - Every template under
templates/is overridable from your theme, the standard WooCommerce way. wp lfsubs self-testruns 76 end-to-end checks against your own install and prints a verdict per check.
Licence, updates and uninstalling
The Pro licence activates on one production site and never expires. The yearly $49 covers updates and priority support; let it lapse and the plugin keeps running exactly as it is, on the version you have. No feature switches off, no fee appears.
Uninstalling deletes nothing by default. A setting decides whether your subscription data goes with the plugin, because removing a plugin should not be a data-loss event.
Frequently asked questions
The short version: the free edition is a real product, and the paid one you own.
Is the free edition a trial?
No. It is a complete subscription engine: simple and variable products, trials, sign-up fees, plan switching, six self-service actions, automatic retries, synchronized renewals, subscription boxes, memberships, six transactional emails, the MRR dashboard, the REST API and native webhooks. Nothing is metered and nothing expires. You move to Pro when you want the customer portal, retention, loyalty, the dunning queue, analytics, the importer or bundles.
What does a perpetual licence mean here?
You pay $49 once for a licence that never expires, and every feature you bought keeps working for as long as you run the plugin. Renewing at $49 a year keeps new versions and priority support coming. Skip it and nothing switches off: no feature locks, no transaction fee appears, no nag screen takes over your admin.
Can I really migrate from WooCommerce Subscriptions?
Yes, and you can look before you leap. Install ours next to the one you have and run the importer dry: it reports what it found and what it would write, without touching anything. Then run it for real in resumable batches. Your source data is never modified and the import has a rollback, so an unconvincing result costs you nothing but the time.
How many sites does one licence cover?
The free edition is unlimited, because it is simply free software. A Pro licence activates on one production site. Staging and development copies are not counted against you.
Will it charge renewals with my payment gateway?
If your gateway stores a payment token or declares subscription support, yes. Stripe and PayPal Payments have dedicated adapters, and any other tokenizing gateway is charged the way WooCommerce charges a saved card. Instead of asking you to trust a list of logos, the plugin states the answer for your gateways on your own settings screen, before you sell anything.
Does it phone home?
Neither edition sends telemetry. Free contacts no LaFactory service and uses WordPress.org for updates. Pro uses the private channel for licensing and updates, then contacts only the CRM services or webhook you explicitly configure.
What happens to my data if I remove the plugin?
Nothing, unless you ask for it. Uninstalling deletes no data by default; a setting decides. Subscriptions are stored as a native shop_subscription order type, the same convention the wider ecosystem uses, so your records stay readable and portable either way.
Buy it once. Keep it for good.
Start with the free edition and run a real subscription store at no cost. Move to Pro at $49 a year for contract control, billing, retention, account credit, CRM connections, analytics, fulfilment and migrations. Stop renewing whenever you like: everything keeps working.
Get LaFactory Subscriptions Pro, $49Competitor price and feature availability are the single-site annual price and the capabilities described on woocommerce.com and in its own documentation in August 2026: $279 a year, and the three-year total assumes it holds.
