Charge on a schedule, on the WooCommerce store you already run

LaFactory Subscriptions adds recurring billing to WooCommerce. Subscriptions are stored as a shop_subscription order type, the same convention used by other major subscription plugins, so your data stays portable. Renewals are scheduled through Action Scheduler, which already ships with WooCommerce.

It is grafted onto WooCommerce rather than laid beside it: native product types, native order storage (HPOS), Cart and Checkout Blocks support, and templates your theme can override.

The free edition is complete, not a teaser. Trials, sign-up fees, plan switching, customer self-service, payment retries, subscription boxes and memberships are all in the free package.

What changes for your store

Bill each plan on its own cadence

Simple and variable subscription products are both supported, with a billing cadence set per variation. The rest sits in the product editor:

  • Free trials and sign-up fees
  • Subscription length: expire after a set number of cycles
  • Synchronized renewals, aligned on a chosen day of the month or of the week
  • Prepaid billing: charge several cycles upfront while the underlying cadence stays explicit
  • Per-customer purchase limits and one-time shipping

Recover the payments that fail

Automatic retries run on intervals you configure. In parallel the customer receives a payment failed email and a Pay now route to settle the failed renewal from their account, so a declined card does not have to end as a cancellation.

Stop answering “can you pause my plan”

From My Account, customers pause, resume, skip the next renewal, renew early, switch plan on a variable subscription, cancel, and settle a failed payment. Each capability can be switched off individually in the settings.

Sell boxes and gate content without a second plugin

Subscription boxes handle quantities, fixed or selected-content pricing, and re-ship the same box every cycle. Memberships assign roles and protect posts, pages, blocks and REST routes, with content drip, member pricing and membership analytics.

See what recurs, and act on it from one screen

The admin dashboard reports MRR, upcoming renewals and churn, next to a full subscriptions list with pause, resume, charge and cancel row actions. Six transactional emails carry the rest: new subscription, cancelled, expired, payment failed, renewal reminder and trial ending.

How it goes in

  1. Install from the WordPress plugin screen, or upload the folder to /wp-content/plugins/, then activate it with WooCommerce 9.0 or later running.
  2. Open WooCommerce > Settings > Subscriptions and set customer permissions, reminders and payment retries.
  3. Create a product and pick Simple subscription, Variable subscription, Subscription box or Membership.

There is nothing else to connect: no account to create, no key to paste, no external service to authorize.

Compatibility

  • WordPress 6.4 or later, tested up to 7.1. PHP 8.1 or later. WooCommerce 9.0 or later.
  • HPOS: the plugin declares custom_order_tables compatibility, and subscriptions and renewals are written through the WooCommerce CRUD layer.
  • Cart and Checkout Blocks: subscriptions are created through the Store API as well as the classic checkout, and both blocks display the recurring totals.
  • Automatic renewals on any gateway that supports tokenization or declares subscription support, including Stripe, PayPal Payments, Mollie, Square, Authorize.Net and GoCardless. Detection is automatic.
  • Gateways without stored tokens fall back to manual renewal: the customer receives a renewal order payable from their account.
  • REST API under /wp-json/lafactory-subscriptions/v1/subscriptions, with CRUD, pause, resume, skip, charge, cancel and stats.
  • Native WooCommerce webhooks for every subscription event.
  • Theme-overridable templates, WordPress privacy export, and guarded anonymization after an accounting retention period you configure.

Questions merchants ask before installing

Does the plugin send anything anywhere?

No. No licence check, no activation call, no telemetry, no analytics, no remote font, no announcement feed, and no setting that would enable one. Payments are taken by the gateway plugin you already use: this plugin only asks it to charge a saved payment method.

How will updates reach me?

The plugin is submitted to the WordPress.org directory under the permanent slug lafactory-subscriptions. Once the listing is live, updates arrive through the standard WordPress update system, like any hosted plugin.

What is not in the free edition?

Pro adds Subscription Health, a read-only integrity scan for broken schedules, missing products, invalid billing contracts and duplicate unpaid renewals. It also adds bundles, recurring coupons, smart retry timing, the dunning queue, subscription analytics, the cancellation and retention flow, and migrations from WooCommerce Subscriptions, WP Swings, WebToffee, YITH and SUMO.

Pro also opens the customer portal further: payment method change per subscription, automatic or manual renewal, delivery address change, a movable next payment date, quantity change and one-click resubscribe. It adds account credit, CRM synchronization, AutomateWoo triggers and loyalty rewards.

Can it sit next to my current subscriptions plugin?

The shop_subscription order type is shared between subscription plugins, which is what keeps your data portable. Since 0.14.0, schedule repair no longer rewrites the next payment date of records this plugin did not create.

What happens on a staging copy of my site?

LFS Shield records the live site identity, then stops automatic renewals, retries and subscription emails when the database is cloned or when WordPress declares a staging environment.

What if I remove it?

Uninstalling deletes nothing by default. A setting decides whether data is removed, so trying the plugin is not a one-way door.

If you need the integrity scan, the migrations, analytics, the extended portal or CRM synchronization, they are in LaFactory Subscriptions Pro.
